New Formlabs printers: Form 3 and 3L are here!!!

Formlabs offers more accuracy, larger print sizes with new Form 3 and Form 3L SLA 3D printers

“We entered the industry seven years ago with the first powerful, affordable desktop SLA 3D printer and since then have shipped more than 50 thousand printers, and our customers have printed more than 40 million parts,” co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Max Lobovsky said in a press release. “We’re excited to take another huge leap forward with LFS 3D printing, dramatically improving the print quality and reliability people can expect while still offering the most powerful and affordable 3D printer on the market.”

The Form 3L, which offers five times the building space of the Form 3, is powered by two Formlabs optical laser units and delivers twice the laser power. Lobovsky says no printers in the Formlabs’ price range offer that printing volume.

In addition to hardware, Formlabs has also introduced a new Draft Resin material which enables up to four times faster printing at 300 microns for rapid prototyping.

And the 3L starts at $9,999. The smaller of the two models will begin shipping in June, while the first shipments of Form 3L printer are expected to commence Q4 2019. Formlabs’ older, Form 2 3D printers, will get a little cheaper as a consequence, with prices starting at $2,850.

Formlabs claims to offers more accuracy, larger print sizes with new Form 3 recenctly launched.

FormLabs, in Boston, today unveiled the long-awaited 3D printer at the Additive Manufacturing User Group of Chicago (AMUG), Germany.The new Form 3 feature a new process the company calls Low Force Stereolithography (LFS) which “uses a custom-designed system of lasers and mirrors and a flexible film tank to cure solid isotropic parts from liquid resin with pinpoint precision.”

The all new Formlabs “Form 3”  are built on a new Low Force Stereolithography in short the LFS process which makes it a stand out from the rest of the crowd and an eye candyin the markey

 Some of the Key Features of the Low Force Stereolithography process invovles:

  • A flexible film tank that reduces peel force;
  • A modular light processing unit (LPU) that maintains a precise, high density laser spot to ensure accurate and repeatable prints;
  • Easier cleanup and smoother parts with tear-away light-touch supports;
  • Integrated sensors that help maintain ideal print conditions, sending alerts about the state of the machine;
  • Remote printing through the online dashboard.

Form 3 is definitely better than the old Form 2 a brief comparison can can shown in the table below:

Specification Sheet for the Newly Launched Formlabs Form 3

XY Resolution0.001in
Laser Power250mW
Layer Thickness0.001 – 0.012in
Build Volume5.7 × 5.7 × 7.3in

The low-priced Form 3 is priced at $3,499

With advanced Low Force Stereolithography (LFS)™ technology, Formlabs has completely re-engineered resin-based 3D printing to radically reduce the forces of the print process.

Nonstop Printing

The Form 3 claims that the constantly monitors attached to the printers constantly print performance so you can focus on bringing your most creative ideas to life. Integrated sensors help to maintain the ideal print conditions and send you alerts about the state of your machine and should it be maintained.

Pinpoint Precision

The custom-designed Light Processing Unit (LPU) inside the printer uses a system of lenses and mirrors to deliver accurate, repeatable and precise prints.

XY Resolution

TheXY Resolution is claimed by Formlabs for Formlabs Form 3 is to be 25μm”.

Laser Power

The Laser Power for claimed by Formlabs for the new Form 3 is to be 250mW.

Crisp, clean features:

The high-power-density laser is passed through a spatial filter to guarantee a clean laser spot.

Consistent printing:

A parabolic mirror ensures that the laser prints perpendicular to the build plane, ensuring uniform print quality across the entire build platform.

Faster print speed:

A high frequency galvanometer offers precise control and high speed.This fast print speed makes it a stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Formlabs, the Massachusetts-based company and segment-leading manufacturer of desktop SLA 3D printers, has lifted the lid on two new additions to its lineup.

Named as Form 3 and Form 3L, this new professional machine works with Formlabs’ Form 2, a flat-bed 3D printer that has become one of the first names in print quality and print quality. Pity since its launch in 2015. Form 2 and Form 3L are used as Formlabs Low-Power Stereotypes (LFs) when using Form 2, which you may consider to be the traditional installation of galvanometric laser stereolithography (SLA) for resin preparation.

In a new direction for the company, the Form 3L is an industrial-scale machine with a large construction space in an office format. Compared to its predecessor, Form 2, the revolutionary technological change, ease of use, and maintaining a large library of professional materials should be an affordable alternative to other major Sri Lankan administrative machinery.

For those unfamiliar with the stereolithography (SLA) technology used by Formlabs in its 3D printers, the SLA uses a targeted laser to attach a photographer to a reservoir. A fast and accurate way to convert resin into a material; This process comes with challenges

On the one hand, the problem of the “peel strength” of the resin should change the position of the prints. Displacement and pressure on the fine print section. The Formlabs Form 2 printer uses a sliding squeeze to gently remove the tank. Although effective, the company felt it was worth updating.

To address this challenge and to allow technology to significantly expand into Form 3L, Formlabs has developed a new approach to low-power stereolithography.
